What Can A Hospitality LMS Do For A Resort?

What to do to keep guests safe during COVID-19

US hotels are also trying to cope with the reduced number of consumers due to this pandemic. Many hotels had to bear the brunt of the low occupancy rate, and some of the luxury hotels closed. The occupancy rate of these hotels fell by 15%, but economy hotels achieved better rates of 40%. Economy hotels will soon return to their pre-pandemic occupancy rates, but that recovery may not be as quick for luxury hotels. The running costs of luxury hotels are also high, which is why they cannot exceed the threshold occupancy. In such hotels, the variable costs vary due to the low occupancy. This is because staff costs are still high regardless of occupancy.

Hotels in the luxury segment require at least 100 employees to function smoothly. The hotel will still incur fixed costs during the closure, but the electricity bills and staff costs will no longer apply. The hospitality industry also suffered from travel restrictions, especially in the luxury segment. Therefore, there were no international business meetings for company employees that justified a hotel stay.

Economy hotels, on the other hand, can replace hotel workers with their family members when occupancy is not high. Because despite travel restrictions, truck drivers have to do their jobs and transport goods across borders, which is why hotel stays are required.

Measures of the hotel industry

Hotels can also encourage employees to take some action as hotel nights have increased. Hotels can ensure that rooms are cleaned with an ultraviolet room disinfectant to kill the COVID-19 virus. All of this information can be uploaded to a hospitality LMS. There may be extensions between stays and the availability of a room shortly after vacancy. In addition, the cleaning staff should not be allowed into the rooms during the stay in order to minimize the infection with the virus.

But what if guests ordered room service? In this case, waiters should ship such orders with PPE kits. Guests may also be asked to sign a declaration upon check-in that they do not have COVID. If guests are from a particular country, you can request a copy of a negative RT-PCR report.

However, some guests may be reluctant to cooperate with such guidelines. It would be best for them to ask them when booking whether they agree to such measures. In this case, it would make sense to have a hospitality LMS that sends guests an autoresponder email as soon as they have booked an appointment on the hotel website.

Actions taken by China

For example, in China, where the virus originated, many measures have been taken to prevent the virus from spreading. In addition to the temperature control of the guests when entering a hotel, the temperatures when entering or leaving the hotel were checked several times a day. Temperatures were also checked when guests checked out. Chinese hotels began to take extreme measures to prevent infection, and as a result, robots were used for room service instead of humans.

Hotels also closed facilities where the risk of infection was high, such as gyms and spas, to prevent their proximity. The employees were informed of such guidelines via the Hospitality LMS.

What about travel restrictions to the US?

The hotel industry in the US will experience a boom once the travel restrictions from Europe are lifted. These restrictions are currently being reviewed. President Joe Biden said on July 15 that consideration was being given to lifting travel restrictions banning European citizens from entering the United States. However, there is no hope that such travel restrictions will be lifted by August 2021. So the US hotel industry will recover as soon as travel restrictions are lifted.

The main problem is implementing passenger contact tracking for every European visitor coming to the US. This is the aim of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the USA.

Back to the Hospitality LMS

The main benefit of a hospitality LMS is that there is no need to reproduce any printed materials once hotel policies have been updated. This is because such an LMS is open to everyone and employees can read all relevant policy changes in it. When the time comes to train hotel staff, courses can be added, and when such courses are no longer in use, they can simply be deleted. Such an LMS can be very useful in ensuring that employees are aware of the new laws. In the event of an audit, the hospitality LMS analyzes are useful to show the authorities how you met the requirements.
