Viking welcomes People again to Europe

Recent announcements by the European Union and the CDC encourage international travel from the US

  • Twenty-seven countries of the European Union agreed today in a vote to re-admit travelers from the USA.
  • The decision complements the CDC’s recent announcement that it has relaxed travel recommendations for 110 countries and territories.
  • Viking resumed operations in May and has been sailing in the UK with British guests since May 22nd.

Viking today welcomed Americans back to a reopened Europe. The 27 EU countries voted today to re-admit travelers from the United States – a long-awaited move that complements the CDC’s recent announcement that it has relaxed travel recommendations for 110 countries and territories. As part of the new recommendations, the CDC has specifically rated Iceland and Malta – two major Vikings Welcome Back travel destinations exclusively for vaccinated guests – as “Level 1” or the lowest risk of COVID-19.

Viking successfully resumed operations in May and has been sailing in the UK with British guests since May 22nd. Almost 100 percent of the guests on these trips delivered exceptionally high ratings. Earlier this week, on June 15, the company welcomed its first American guests back on board in Bermuda for the first of eight Bermuda Escape crossings. Over the course of the next month, Viking Welcome Back cruises around Iceland and the Mediterranean will start – and resume its European river operations with selected routes in Portugal, France and along the Rhine.

“We applaud the European Union and the CDC for their thoughtful efforts to encourage international travel while making public health a top priority,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “Our guests are experienced travelers who want to comfortably explore the world again. It has been a pleasure to have guests in England and Bermuda on board again over the past few weeks, and we can now look forward to our American guests returning to Europe this summer. “
