Totally vaccinated folks can now journey safely

CDC’s new tour guide is an important step in the right direction, backed by science

  • Fully vaccinated people can now travel safely according to the new CDC guidelines
  • Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to be tested before or after the trip
  • Fully vaccinated people should still wear a mask when traveling

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in new guidelines today that fully vaccinated people can now travel safely.

The agency added that people who are fully vaccinated do not need to be tested before or afterwards unless the goal so requires. However, fully vaccinated people should still wear a mask when traveling, the agency said.

The President and CEO of the US Travel Association, Roger Dow, made the following statement on the CDC’s announcement on Friday that the travel guide would be significantly relaxed for those fully vaccinated against COVID-19:

“The CDC’s new tour guide is an important step in the right direction, backed by science, and set to hold back the industry, which has been by far hardest hit by the effects of COVID. When travel comes back, US jobs come back.

“Data from the CDC suggest that vaccinated individuals do not transmit the coronavirus, which opens the door much wider to resumption of travel, even though they continue to carefully follow other best health practices. Realizing that vaccinations eliminate the need for testing and quarantines removes an important barrier to domestic travel. Removing the recommendation that international visitors be quarantined is also an important incremental step.

“The long break from travel destroyed employment in the US. Travel-assisted jobs account for 65% of all jobs lost in the US last year. This is an opportunity to regain much of the jobs lost. The travel industry’s mantra during the pandemic should be science based, which clearly shows that now is the right time to take this step.

“In the meantime, it remains important that all eligible Americans be vaccinated as soon as possible in order to restore everyone’s freedom of movement more quickly.”
