Thailand lady dies hours after COVID-19 vaccination

A 46-year-old woman in Bangkok, Thailand, died on June 8, 2021 after receiving an injection of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca just hours earlier.

  1. Officials are investigating the woman’s cause of death the same day after the vaccination.
  2. Within about 23 hours, she suffocated, had a seizure, passed out, and died.
  3. The National Health Security Office offers assistance to the deceased woman’s family.

The woman received her first dose of the vaccine at 11:45 p.m. on June 8, 2021 at a vaccination station at the Thai Business Administration Technological College in Bang Khen District, one of 50 districts in Bangkok, Thailand.

When she returned home, she had a fever, a headache, and was cold. She took 3 rounds of pain medication. At 10:30 p.m., she suffocated, had a fit, and passed out. Relatives called an ambulance and she was later pronounced dead.

The Secretary General of the National Health Security Office (NHSO), Dr. Jadej Thammatach-aree said he sent his staff to offer first aid immediately without waiting for a conclusion as to whether the vaccine caused the death. The first aid was aimed at helping affected people, he said.
