6 ways to promote emotional engagement in virtual training

We often design corporate training as a mandatory process: meet these requirements and move on to the next task. It is a reinforcement of a “push” learning culture that is content-oriented and an impersonal experience. Effective learning has an emotional component, especially in times of uncertainty. Employees want to do well at work, but they also emphasize the challenges associated with working from home and caring for their families. The training feature is committed to recognizing these emotions, and moderators can enhance the virtual training experience by addressing them in their delivery approach.

It is important to realize that the way learners think about it changes the learning experience. Facilitators should endeavor to allow individuals to be comfortable with the experience and even encourage a sense of community. To encourage emotional engagement, moderators can:

Build trust in the virtual classroom to empathize with the learners

When a moderator becomes fluent in the tools, the virtual classroom takes a back seat and learners begin to ignore the technology. This makes them feel like they are in a “real” learning environment and encourages them to get more involved with the training experience.

Show that all contributions and interactions are valued

When learners’ contributions are recognized and reinforced, they find that they are not anonymous and that their participation in the learning environment matters. This helps them feel safe, and they tend to add even more to it. This is especially important in the virtual classroom, where learners rarely see the moderator or his colleagues.

Create an environment in which learners feel confident giving opinions and asking questions

When learners feel intellectually secure, they may feel more inclined to contribute to conversations and ask questions. The training should provide a safe space for making mistakes and asking questions for understanding. Facilitators can help convince learners that their posts have value, even if they miss the mark.

Create an environment where individuals enjoy learning

When learners enjoy themselves, they feel better about being part of the experience. To arouse interest! Spread joy! Technical training can also be fun. Advanced presenters can add passion to their delivery and the environment to create a more exciting event.

Encourage a community among learners

As relationships develop between learners, there is an increased likelihood that they will work cooperatively within the learning experience to make it more effective for themselves. Learners “leave their own minds” and begin to think about “we, the learners” within the learning experience. They will build, develop, and articulate on each other’s contributions
positive contributions and try to adapt the materials to both yourself and the class as a whole.

Build emotional engagement by reinforcing why the content matters

When learners recognize and internalize why certain content is important, they feel comfortable participating and are more open to learning. The importance of content creates a positive emotional response because the learner believes that if the content is important, the fact that he is learning in the classroom means that it is also important. In this sense, the training takes on the role of reward and recognition for the learner.

Conclusion

Intellectual and ecological commitment are of great importance in modern learning. However, encouraging emotional engagement increases its effectiveness and impact by personalizing the experience.
