The U.S. Department of State has raised the travel warning level for Americans traveling to Canada and advised all U.S. citizens to travel to the country amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest travel warning from the US State Department placed Canada at Level 3, which reads “Rethinking Travel”.

The US State Department issued a statement saying it had re-categorized travel advisories from Level 2 – “Be careful” – to Level 3 – “Rethink travel” on the advice of the CDC due to a “high level of COVID” -19 in Canada. “

The US State Department together with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned against traveling to Switzerland, among other places, because of the increasing number of new cases of COVID-19 infections.

Over 21,000 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Canada in the past seven days. At the same time, over 900,000 new COVID-19 cases were registered in the United States last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
