Cellular-Pleasant Actions To Add To Your Worker Coaching LMS

Would you like to make your employee training more modern and mobile-friendly?

Many companies consider mobile a minor issue. But those in the know are advocating mobile-first and are starting to make a mark. It’s no longer about responsive and adaptive approaches designing for the web and then adapting for mobile. If you want your portable workout to really work, change this order. That means creating tools, functions and components that are specifically designed for mobile devices. You can optimize them for desktop or web later. So what are some of these mobile-friendly employee training components?

7 mobile-friendly activities to upload to your online training LMS

1. Bite-sized serious games

We all have games on our mobile devices. They help us pass the time, keep us busy and easy to entertain. From the provider’s point of view, they expose us to advertisements and consume bandwidth. This means that they are a marketing channel. Serious games can look and sound like regular phone games that have an actual end goal. They aren’t just there for banal pleasure. They aim to teach a (company) lesson. Use a quick authoring tool with built-in gaming templates to speed up the process. They will give your game the right look, feel and functionality for mobile screens.

2. Task simulation

Virtual reality training doesn’t have to include haptic gloves and immersive glasses. It could be a simple simulation, peppered with the right soundtrack and an emotional plot that casts a spell over you. However, since you train on mobile devices, you have to deal with the complexity. The space on your screen is limited. So instead of programming large cascading landscapes, keep your simulations going. For desktop versions, you could create a scavenger hunt that mimics your entire office building. For mobile devices, hide your “treasure” in a single room or limit your settings to just one desk. Instead of a big, complicated game escape, consider creating a series of microsimulations, each one focused on one task. A desktop security simulation could traverse fire, flood, terrorism, and data security tips. A serious mobile simulation should have independent mini-modules for each individual.

3. GPS-overlaid training exercises

With smartphones and tablets, you can literally bring your training games to life. The key is to develop training games for the employees that are based on the real world. You can let them collect business tools or practice specific work-related skills. For example, they could develop powers of observation and sharpen their memory by finding the best way to get to work. This applies regardless of whether you are traveling by car, on foot, by bike or by public transport. This is also a creative way to consolidate time management and punctuality. (Be careful while driving or driving, however – looking at the screen all the time can lead to accidents.) The game can also be used to multitask and exercise while running errands in the office or having lunch.

4. Finger-friendly mobile modules

In the office, training modules can be navigated using a keyboard and mouse. When converting this to mobile, some programs simply resize the screen, which is not optimal. You need to reduce the size of the screen (even if it means increasing the number of slides or pages). It is also useful to convert navigation tools. Instead of arrows and scroll bars, choose buttons and clickable icons. You should also replace light boxes and pop-ups with rich text and zoomable optics. These are much easier to use on a 5 or 6 inch mobile screen.

5. Video demos

Employees can watch a video demo anytime, anywhere, highlighted as a task or product feature. The clip can even give advice on how to deal with discerning customers or perfect their sales pitch. The possibilities are practically endless. It is crucial that mobile-friendly training videos for employees must be quickly consumable and compressed. You should also include subtitles for employees with special needs and those who access the content in the public space.

6. Brief summary infographics

Infographics are a great addition to your employee training LMS because they are visual and targeted. Employees view the infographic to refresh their knowledge of company policies, explore product benefits, or retrain task steps. You can zoom in on certain sections to examine graphs and charts. Or click embedded buttons to access additional support tools. Again, avoid links that aren’t ideal for typing. Also, keep text to a minimum and use larger fonts so you can see the infographic in all its glory on your small screen.

7. Customize your JIT library

This can be quite labor intensive in the end, but it’s well worth it. If you don’t have a quick resource library, you can build one from the ground up with mobile devices in mind. However, if the attachments already exist, make a checklist and follow all the steps. For graphics, increase the resolution and compress the size. This saves bandwidth and storage space on your phone, but still allows you to zoom in on the details. Compress photos, videos, and audio clips. Integrate navigation tools for easy playback (pause, play, rewind, slow motion, subtitles, mute, text-to-speech). Edit each reference element to make sure it can be absorbed in a minute or less. More graphics, less text. But make sure it is using the correct imagery, clearly understandable without liner notes or written descriptions.

But how exactly should you use these portable functions? Create bite-sized serious games and task-based simulations. Overlay your training exercises with real GPS modules.
