Bangkok needs its personal Tourism Sandbox

  1. The private sector has proposed three measures to reopen businesses, including promoting businesses in line with coronavirus protection guidelines and a 70% vaccination rate among employees.
  2. A second suggestion is to use a Digital Health Pass for vaccinated customers.
  3. The third proposal is to start a pilot project in certain retail companies that, after rigorous measures, agree to reopen.

According to Sanan Angubolkul, president of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the private sector has proposed three measures to reopen businesses, including standards like SHA + (SHA PLUS), promoting businesses under coronavirus protection guidelines, and a 70 percent vaccination rate among employees. The Sha Plus model is currently used in the Phuket Sandbox Project.

The second suggestion is to use a vaccinated customer digital health passport that uses the Department of Health’s database and accepts customers who have the results of an ATK test so that those who can do so can use the services of these companies

The proposed “Digital Health Pass” can be used with vaccinated individuals whose data is recorded in the “Doctor Ready” or “Moh Prom” application, which applies to those who have registered for government-provided vaccinations.

The third proposal is to start a pilot project in certain retail companies that are willing to reopen and are able to strictly follow the measures.

In the industrial sector, the factory sandbox model is already being used to isolate and vaccinate infected workers in order to increase confidence in the export sector.

The Phuket Sandbox was launched on July 1, 2021 and enables fully vaccinated international visitors to fly straight to their destination and stay quarantine-free on the island. Hotels must ensure that at least 70% of their employees have been vaccinated – the same vaccination rate as the Phuket population, creating herd immunity to COVID-19. Although the high level of protection does not prevent people from contracting COVID-19, it significantly reduces the likelihood of serious infection and hospitalization.

Phuket Lieutenant Governor Mr. Piyapong Choowong said, “I would like to acknowledge that we support Phuket Sandbox. We are making sure the people of the island and all visitors are safe so that we can run the sandbox smoothly and continue to welcome more tourists to Phuket. ”
