Spain will introduce entry COVID Passports by summer season

It is still difficult to pinpoint the exact date the passports will appear

  • Spain unveils new entry document for foreign visitors
  • At least 70 percent of Spaniards must be vaccinated before implementing the COVID passport plan
  • A COVID passport is required to enter Spain

Spanish Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto said immigration vaccination cards, also known as “Green Certificates” or “COVID Passports”, which would allow foreign tourists to enter the country, will be introduced by June.

At least 70 percent of Spaniards must be vaccinated before implementing the COVID passport plan. However, that number can be slashed to 30 to 40 percent, though doctors are against it. The pace of national vaccination depends directly on the delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the country, so it is still difficult to determine the exact date that passports will appear.

The government authorities of the Balearic Islands offered to be the first to try a pilot project in their region, but Maroto declined the offer. She wants passports to be introduced across the country at the same time.
