Norwegian Cruise Line to homeport in Jamaica

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has announced that Jamaica has entered into agreements with global cruise company Norwegian Cruise Line to host one of its ships in Montego Bay.

  1. The Norwegian cruise service is scheduled to start on August 7, 2021.
  2. The Jamaica Minister of Tourism assured that the cruise companies adhere to strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
  3. According to the current COVID-19 protocols, the cruise ship with an occupancy of approx. 3,800 people will be 50% full.

“I’m very excited to announce that Jamaica will be a homeport for Norwegian Cruise Line, bringing cruise tourism back to Jamaican waters in August. We look forward to seeing you back on our shores and I am confident that this important partnership will support our efforts to rebuild our tourism sector and boost our economy as a whole, ”said Bartlett.

“Although we know there are currently concerns about the safety of the cruise industry. We want to reassure the public that the cruise lines adhere to strict COVID-19 safety protocols. We have also worked tirelessly to develop the necessary political and strategic frameworks to ensure this is a safe, seamless and secure experience that is mutually beneficial, ”he added.

Norwegian Joy is the ship that carries passengers from Jamaica. Itineraries include 7-day packages sailing from Montego Bay.

“Ultimately, with an occupancy of approx. 3,800 people, the ship will be 50% full, which corresponds to the current COVID-19 protocols for the cruise industry. Passengers must also be fully vaccinated and have a test before boarding the ship, ”said Minister Bartlett.

With this announcement, Jamaica joins a number of other Caribbean destinations that will be home ports for leading cruise lines.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. is a leading international cruise company operating multiple brands including Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. With a combined fleet of 28 ships with approximately 59,150 berths, these brands offer itineraries to more than 490 destinations worldwide. The company is expected to introduce nine more ships by 2027.
