Lexia Studying Rebrands Rosetta Stone English
BOSTON (July 12, 2021) – Lexia Learning, a Cambium Learning® Group company, today announced the official name change from Rosetta Stone® English to Lexia® English Language Development ™ (Lexia English). The name change follows the sale of the language division of Rosetta Stone by Cambium.
Lexia English joins Lexia’s robust suite of literacy products to help all students achieve their academic potential, improve educational equity, and empower aspiring bilinguals to advance linguistically and academically. Lexia is now the sole source provider of the K-6 English language development solution.
“Although the name and appearance of the product have changed, the curriculum remains the same,” said Nick Gaehde, president of Lexia. “In addition to rebranding the product, we’re releasing Version 2.0, which includes new tools that will help aspiring bilingual students learn academic English and enable teachers to streamline teaching and ensure its effectiveness.”
Lexia English is an adaptive blended learning program designed to help aspiring bilingual students – also known as English learners – acquire advanced language skills in English. With an embedded focus on multiple language proficiency standards and speech recognition technology, the program focuses on three key areas – speaking, listening, and grammar. Lexia English combines language learning with subject knowledge to support academic success, while culturally and ethnically diverse characters motivate and encourage students throughout their learning journey. Currently, more than 40,000 students have used the product in over 1,400 schools.
Originally published in August 2020, the program has already won several high profile industry awards:
● Winner of the EdTech CODiE Awards 2021 from SIIA
● Winner of the New Product Awards 2021 of the American Business Awards
● Tech & Learning 2020 Best of Show Awards Winner
● Winner of THE Journal’s New Product Awards 2020
● Finalist, Cool Tools of the EdTech Awards 2021
Updates to the program include an in-program tool for automatic placement for new students. The tool determines each student’s correct entry point into the program by assessing both their receptive and productive language skills, which is crucial as aspiring bilingual students return to school after taking very few formative exams during compulsory distance learning.
In addition, Lexia English now offers teacher-led language teaching in digital form. This new feature supports a blended learning model and the need for teacher-led, targeted teaching.
Lexia English is available on the web and as an iPad app. The app will also be available in the Google Play Store for Android devices later this year.
“We know from research that oral language is the basis for later reading ability. Through frequent listening and speaking training, especially for the academic language, Lexia English provides students with the best language acquisition strategies and literacy results for today’s emerging bilingual, ”said Gaehde. “And with these new updates, there is no doubt that it will be an industry leader for years to come.”
