Delta Air Traces orders 25 further Airbus A321neos

With this final order from Delta Air Lines, the total order for the A321neo since launch is nearly 3,500

  • The new order adds to Delta’s 2017 order for 100 A321neo aircraft
  • These aircraft are powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines
  • Delta has also accelerated the delivery of two A350-900 aircraft and two A330-900neo aircraft

Delta Air Lines has firmly ordered 25 Airbus A321neo aircraft (New Engine Option). This is in addition to Delta’s order for 100 A321neo aircraft for 2017. These aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines. In addition, Delta has accelerated the delivery of two A350-900 aircraft and two A330-900neo aircraft.

“As our customers are ready to regain the joy of travel, this agreement positions Delta for growth while taking into account planned outages of older narrowbody aircraft in our fleet, reducing our carbon footprint, increasing efficiency and enhancing the customer experience,” said Mahendra Nair. Senior Vice President of Delta Air Lines – Fleet Strategy. “We thank Airbus for their unwavering partnership during the pandemic and look forward to working with them as we receive the A321neo as well as our A350 and A330-900neo accelerated shipments.”

“We have mastered the challenges of the past year together with our customers, and it is gratifying to take steps like these with our long-term partner Delta to regrow our industry,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer of Airbus.

Overall, aircraft in the A320neo family offer a fuel improvement per seat of 20% and an additional range of up to 500 nautical miles or two tons of additional payload.

The A321neo was first delivered in April 2017 and is 95% identical to the Airbus A320 family. This facilitates seamless integration into existing single-aisle fleets. The A321neo also shares a type rating with the rest of the A320 Family, allowing A320 Family pilots to fly the A321neo without additional training.

With this latest order from Delta Air Lines, the total order for the A321neo since its inception is nearly 3,500, with more than 500 aircraft already in service in fleets around the world.
