The Zanzibar International Film Festival was launched 24 years ago with great success in Zanzibar. This year’s event takes place July 21-25 in Stone Town, Zanzibar’s premier tourist hotspot and tourist heritage site.
The organizers of this year’s ZIFF attracted over 240 films from 25 countries. Tanzania has 13 films, Kenya 9, Uganda 5 and South Africa 5.
This year, 67 films were selected for screening, including 10 feature films, 5 documentaries and 40 short films and animations in the competition, said ZIFF director Professor Martin Muhando.
“This year we received a total of over 240 films. We have received films from 25 countries including, for the first time, a film from Estonia, ”he added.
The festival aims to raise awareness and promote international cinema as an art, entertainment and industry in order to promote dialogue, human rights and freedom.
The festival reaches a wide audience with its programs, which is what defines the ZIFF.
Prof. Muhando said that the festival makes a great contribution to better understanding of cinema through its public forums, community screenings, and music and art platforms.
