WestJet extends Mexico and Caribbean flight suspension

WestJet is extending the solar flight suspension until June 4, 2021

  • WestJet continues to focus on finding a long-term solution that serves the best interests of Canadians
  • WestJet continues to advocate replacing the mandatory hotel quarantines with a test procedure
  • Guests with affected travel routes will be proactively informed of the cancellations

WestJet announced today that it will extend the temporary suspension of international sun flights to destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean until June 4, 2021.

“We are extending our suspension with the clear expectation that government policy will change as more Canadians are vaccinated,” said Ed Sims, President and CEO of WestJet. “We are still committed to replacing the mandatory hotel quarantines with a test system that is fair at all points of entry into our country and meets global standards. In addition to accelerating and successful vaccine adoption, this policy transition will support the safe restart of travel and revitalize Canada’s economy, where one in ten jobs is tourism-related. “

Guests with affected travel routes will be proactively informed of the cancellations. Since November 1, 2020, WestJet has been offering refunds to all travelers, regardless of the fare class booked in which WestJet initiated the cancellation.

“We remain focused on finding a long-term solution that serves the best interests of Canadians,” continued Sims. “A secure framework for restarting travel is the most effective way to support these interests and restore jobs.”
