Totally Vaccinated People Advised to Put on Face Masks Indoors

  • Since June, the daily incidence of COVID-19 in the United States has nearly quadrupled.
  • The more highly transmittable delta variant of the coronavirus even infects vaccinated people.
  • The CDC’s decision has been in the works for several days.

Two months ago, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) gave fully vaccinated Americans permission to return without masks to indoor areas such as restaurants, theaters, shops, and workspaces. Now the agency is reportedly ready to step back and recommend some fully vaccinated individuals to wear face masks again in certain indoor spaces.

CDC requests fully vaccinated Americans to wear face masks indoors

The decision, made amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, will dramatically reverse the organization’s previous guidance when announced.

With the more transmissible delta variant of the coronavirus infecting even the vaccinated and with cases increasing in areas with low vaccination rates, the CDC is expected to encourage both vaccinated and unvaccinated people to hide while eating indoors or entering other crowded rooms.

The CDC guidelines will likely be announced later Tuesday afternoon, but the exact wording remains unclear. The masking guidelines could only be applied to certain areas with a high Covid-19 incidence or to certain people. According to some reports, citing a White House source, people living with unvaccinated children or those who are immunocompromised are asked to mask themselves in indoor public spaces.

The decision has been in the works for several days. White House Health Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that such guidance was being “actively considered” by the CDC at this point.

According to the CDC, new daily cases of COVID-19 in the US have nearly quadrupled since June. With most of the cases reported among the unvaccinated, officials and media commentators have blamed those who refuse to be vaccinated.

“This is a problem mainly among the unvaccinated, which is why we are out there practically begging the unvaccinated people to go out and get vaccinated,” Fauci said on Sunday, adding that the US is currently “in the” wrong direction ” With regard to the eradication of COVID-19.

According to the CDC, about 69 percent of US adults have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine. However, among those who haven’t had their chance, new polls show that the vast majority have no intentions to do so.
