In 1869, Albert Smiley, a nature-loving Quaker school teacher, bought a lot for a good price – 300 acres around a lake and a tavern in spectacular natural surroundings in the heart of 26,000 acres in the Shawangunk Mountains, New York. The Mohonk Mountain House is to be built soon.
