Exploring Maafushi Island In Maldives
Today we are going to visit the Maldives of Maafushi Island and I will take you on a tour of the island and give you an overview of the place. Maafushi Island is a popular island in the Maldives and part of Kaafu Atoll, which is 26 kilometers from the capital, Male.
Maafushi Village
The island can be divided into three different areas: the Maafushi prison, the local residents area, and the tourist area. And in this article, we’re going to cover each of these areas one by one! So let’s get started. We will start our tour from the first place we will enter Maafushi Island. This is the Maafushi bridge. It is a very important place on the island as boats are the only means of communication to other islands and the capital city of Male.
What to do in Maldives, Maafushi Island Activities
Once you land on Maafushi Island, you’ll see a name logo right on the road next to the pier, and a little further south you’ll find the tsunami memorial. Out here we went a little further south and found that this place is much quieter than the other parts of the island. The beach out here is very calm and serene. There are only a few hostels and guest houses for tourists. But a third of the island is occupied by Maafushi prison. The only one of the two prisons in the entire nation. The island power plant is located a little further to the northeast.

The Maldives is an Islamic nation and most of the residents of Maafushi follow Islam. Out here you can see the Maafushi Mosque which is the prayer room for the residents. The island has a fairly large playground and there is also a separate mini soccer field. The Bank of Maldives branch with an ATM is the only bank on Maafushi Island. There is also a school for children and an education center in Maafushi. So this is a residential area in Maafushi.

And most of the locals stay outside in this area. Maafushi is ruled by an elected council. There is the Revenue Collection Office and the Island Council Office. This leaves us with the last area, which is the area for tourists. It can be further divided into three different areas: The water sports beach, the public beaches and the bikini beach Water sports activities are a major attraction for the tourists in Maafushi. There are some water sports and diving centers near the water sports beach. Go out and enjoy different kinds of water sports activities like parasailing-jet-ski-fun tubes etc. Outside you can also rent bikes. The public beaches are the beaches on the east and the north part of the island in this place different rules regarding bathing and other beach activities.

Since the Maldives is an Islamic nation and Islam has strict laws regarding clothing, you are not allowed to wear open dresses and short dresses in these areas. If you want to enjoy these beaches you need to follow these strict dress guidelines. The public beaches are less crowded and if you want some quiet time you can have fun out here on the public beaches where we find very few tourists. The eastern part of the beach is very beautiful especially early in the morning and even the sunrise when you visit this place the place is actually breathtaking. Another important thing out here is that you won’t see a lot of waves out here in this part of the island.This is because the waves are blocked due to the coral reef on the outskirts of the island and about 200 meters from the coast.
Bikini Beach Maafushi Island
In this part of the beach we can also find some interesting crabs and other types of shells, some of which are barely visible to the naked eye due to this camouflage color. And finally we come to Bikini Beach, which is the most important tourist center on the island is located in the northwest of the island. There are no restrictions on clothing or swimwear out here. Out here, you can wear your favorite swimwear and enjoy the ocean. This is also the busiest part of the island as there are many tourists enjoying the sun and sea.
In this part of the sea beach we find a lot of waves and if it is also the cleanest part of the sea in Maafushi, you can enjoy out here in the cool blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Most of the hotels are located in this part of the beach. You will see many souvenir shops. Juice bars and other grocery stores out here are also a couple of grocery stores and food mart on the island. Since alcohol is banned in the Maldives, nightlife in Maafushi is limited to the few juice bars and restaurants that offer exotic dishes, seafood and the occasional few small parties here and there.

But if you want to try some alcohol you have to go to one of the floating bars, which are basically cruise ships with an on-board bar and live music off the coast of Maafushi. If you want to visit them you have to contact your hotel or hotel travel agents on the island but for me the most amazing place in Maafushi would be the sunset on Westside Beach.
