LAM Mozambique Airways to promote its Embraer plane in a cost-cutting transfer

It doesn’t make sense for a small company like LAM to fly three to four different brands of aircraft.

  • The sale allows the company to operate with a maximum of two types of aircraft.
  • LAM’s current fleet consists of six aircraft from three different manufacturers.
  • The IGEPE administrator did not provide the exact number of aircraft that would be involved in the sale.

According to local news reports, LAM – a national airline of Mozambique – is planning to sell its Embraer aircraft to minimize operating costs and standardize its fleet.

LAM’s current fleet consists of six aircraft from three different manufacturers, including two Embraer 190 aircraft from the Brazilian aerospace group Embraer SAer

“It doesn’t make sense for a small company like LAM to fly three to four different brands of aircraft,” said Raimundo Matule, administrator of the Institute for State Investment Management (IGEPE), admitting that the airline is facing structural problems .

The IGEPE administrator did not provide the exact number of aircraft involved in the sale, but said the reduction will bring a great deal of cost rationalization and will allow the company to operate with a maximum of two types of aircraft.

IGEPE injected around 700 million meticais (over $ 11 million) in 2020 to the national airline, whose revenue plummeted due to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
